PE/HDPE/LDPE/LLDPE materials

2024-10-09

Polyethylene (PE) is one of the five major synthetic resins, polyethylene is mainly divided into linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), low density polyethylene (LDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE) three categories. The main modified varieties of polyethylene are chlorinated polyethylene, chlorosulfonated polyethylene, crosslinked polyethylene and blended modified varieties.

HDPE is a high density polyethylene material, which is a highly crystalline, non-polar thermoplastic resin. HDPE is usually white powder or granular, non-toxic and tasteless, has good chemical stability, insoluble in any organic solvent at room temperature, and has good resistance to acid, alkali and salt corrosion.

The hardness, tensile strength and creep properties of HDPE are better than those of low-density polyethylene (LDPE), and they also have good wear resistance, electrical insulation, toughness and cold resistance. Because its resistance to environmental stress and cracking is not as good as low-density polyethylene, especially thermal oxidation will reduce its performance, HDPE is usually used in applications where heat resistance requirements are not high.

Low density polyethylene, also known as high pressure polyethylene (LDPE), is the lightest variety of polyethylene resin, which is milky, tasteless, odorless, non-toxic, waxy particles with a dull surface. It has good softness, extensibility, electrical insulation, transparency, ease of processing and certain permeability. Its chemical stability is good, alkali resistance, resistance to general organic solvents.

Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) is a essentially linear polymer (polyethylene) with a large number of short branched chains, usually produced by copolymerization of ethylene with long-chain olefins. Linear low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is structurally different from conventional low-density polyethylene (LDPE) because it does not have long chain branching. The main features of LLDPE include high strength, high flexibility and excellent chemical corrosion resistance.
